What Is A Notary Public - Where To Find A Notary Public - Tony A. Suggs Notary Public
A Notary Public is a person authorized by the State to verify the identity of a person signing a document. The Notary Public must
complete the required training, pass a written test and pass a criminal background check.
The person signing the documents must
appear in person before the Notary Public and have a current acceptable State issued identification. Proper ID is a State issued Drivers
License or ID Card, U.S. Passport or Military ID Card.
Credit Cards, Work IDs, Social Security cards are NOT acceptable
forms of identification for notarizing a document.
Many legal documents require that the person signing it must show proof
of their identity in person to a Notary Public. The Notary Public will also sign that document and affix their State issued notary
seal or stamp to it. This insures that the document was signed by the person authorized to do so.
The most common documents requiring
notarization are Power of Attorneys, Real Estate Deeds, Affidavits, Trusts, Insurance Settlements, Guardianship, Children
Travel Permissions
A Notary Public is not an attorney. They can not give legal advice and must not fill out the document for
the signer. The person requesting the notarization must complete the document on their own.
